The people of Newcastle invited the wider community to help bring their vision of a modern, inclusive Community Recreation & Play Area to life with the launch of the Our Place to Play fundraising campaign.

Construction of Phase 1 – the new children’s playground – is due to begin shortly. However, the community is seeking to raise €170,000 to ensure the playground is delivered to the high standard originally envisioned and to develop the wider Community Recreation & Play Area.

This funding will provide additional inclusive play equipment, accessible pathways, sensory garden features, seating areas, and welcoming outdoor spaces for people of all ages and abilities.

The fundraising campaign officially launched at the Community Playground on Saturday, July 18th, recognising the years of dedication by local volunteers and marking the beginning of the community’s final fundraising effort to help deliver this important project.

Speaking on behalf of the Community Recreation & Play Area Committee, Sarah Gibson O’Gara said, “For years, our community has worked together to make this project possible. With construction on the playground beginning shortly, we now have one final opportunity to help fund a truly inclusive community recreation and play area that everyone can enjoy.

“Every donation, no matter how small, will help us build something that will benefit Newcastle and Wicklow for generations to come.”

The Committee is encouraging residents, local businesses, former residents, and friends of Newcastle to support this campaign by donating and sharing the appeal. The GoFundMe page is now live, and every contribution will help turn the community’s vision into reality.
