Day of the dead…
atest press release from Cllr Lourda Scott, issued on Thursday, July
9th 2026…
Cllr. Scott called for the collection of data on femicide to be collected as directed by the European Institute for Gender Equality. Currently the number of women who are murdered by men is collected by Women’s Aid, but not officially by the State.
Speaking on the matter Scott said: “The murder of Jamie Carmody, coming so soon after the murder of Adina Constantin, is absolutely devastating. My thoughts are with their
families and friends, who are dealing with unimaginable loss.
That means recognising femicide, recording it properly and using the data to create better policies and stronger protections.
