Despite this being the main road artery between Rosslare and Dublin, with tens of thousands of road users dependent on the route for work. With Minister for Transport and leader of the Green Party Eamon Ryan emerging as the main culprit for funding delays.
Deputy Brady said: “I think what we see here is another example of the utter contempt in which the Green Party holds rural Ireland. They cannot seem to grasp the fact that outside the leafy suburbs of middle class Dublin, it is not possible for the majority of people to travel without using our roads.
“Eamon Ryan has made his feelings towards those in this country who are forced to use our congested road transport system quite clear. This man is totally unsuitable to act as Minister for Transport. He has zero commitment to the needs of ordinary people who need to use our roads to commute for work and personal reasons.
“The question needs to be asked as to what price that Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are prepared to pay in order to stay in power, when they put a man committed to halting road projects in charge of the nation’s transport routes.
“I cannot explain how angry I am about this. We have literally thousands of people in this county who are dependent on the N11 / M11 on a daily basis. Traffic levels are back as bad as they ever were. And people who are left with no other transport option are being left to negotiate what I would argue at this stage are needless delays.
“The failure to progress the N11 / M11 improvement scheme coupled with the ongoing failure to progress the N81 upgrade scheme in West Wicklow shows nothing but contempt for the people of Wicklow.
“We need to see the government TDs in Wicklow get their act together and ensure that this unacceptable political decision is reversed. I know that he will be hearing my views on the subject.
“And he will be left in no doubt as to the impact that his blinkered approach is having on the people of Wicklow.”
