n the end, even though this was the town where the lad grew up, Peter never stood a chance.

Giving up his life and job in Texas to move the family to Greystones, Peter Browne and his wife, Susie, narrowed down their search to three houses.

With a budget of €3,000 a month, the currently-unemployed Peter really liked Seaview (it was €200 under-budget) and that detached place up in Eden Gate that was just bang on the money.

Susie, on the other hand, had her heart set on the dirty big Burnaby mansion that was, well, more than a tad over-budget.

The showdown took place at La Crêperie Pierre Grise, the no.1 Greystones spot for all warring couples who need a little sea air in their lungs to really shout. And the whole shebang was filmed for the American property TV programme House Hunters.

And it was hilarious.

Naturally, it was fab agus groovy, seeing all those aerial shots of our fine town, the hustle & bustle of our main street, and the family of four having a quick visit to, eh, Aunty Nellie’s Candy Store.

The real comedy though – beyond the Bond girl presenter travelling from house to house on a motorbike – is watching a man trying to convince his wife that, when it comes to their dream home, small, practical and economical is by far the best option.

In the end, it’s a fist-bump down at La Crêperie, as Peter finally agrees with Susie that, yes, the ridiculously expensive house is their best option. Which, of course, is the fairytale ending that the producers needed.

An ending that gets you right in the feels.
