Chappie’s Challenge 2014

That’s our boy…

t took place on a sunny September afternoon, the 14th, to be precise, 2014.

Johnny Hayden – aka Chappie – has never been one to let something as silly as a wheelchair stand between him and doing whatever the hell he wants.

Such as swimming from Greystones’ South Beach to the harbour. He may have done so with a little help from his friends – there to cheer him on rather than carry – but the spirit of the day was all Johnny’s. And among those incredible friends were, of course, his beautiful partner Maite and his wonderful, anxious mum, the latter waiting onshore with a blanket and a hug.

A brave-verging-on-bonkers man, and an incredible day. And the challenge goes on. Johnny is currently in talks to make this an annual event. So, you know, get your Speedos polished and ready.

Who knows where this unstoppable force is going to take us next…
