Sure, there was everything from diddley-aye to soul ballads, from pop hits to dub metal, and it all came from one band of happy gypsys.
Yep, the Music Together gang took over the Greystones Theatre this afternoon, to showcase some of their new works, but also, well, to have some fun.
Seeing the pure joy that comes with getting together and just playing some music was evident from the start, as leaders of the pack Andy & Marion Smith and Zeca Munhoz used this 11-year-old vehicle for people with special needs and physical disabilities to have today’s singers, songwriters, musicians, dancers and chances come together through art.
And come together they did, with a passion, as all those groovy workshops paid off in one glorious afternoon of impassioned performances.
Big shout-out to Andy, Marion and Zeca, plus their groovy assistant, Lydia Simoes, but the biggest cheer has to go to the students. Take a bow, Deirdre O’Brien, Martin Flanigan, Leo O’Conner, Johnny McGraynor, Nicola Riley and Alan Hurst. Nicely done, kids!
In the meantime, get a load of this beautiful track. What gets us in the feels is Alan, that notoriously angry guy in the wheelchair, and his beautiful, heart-melting refrain on keyboards…
