here were plenty of kicks for the Scoil Rince Fáinne girls at the CRN Blackout Championship this month.

CRN standing for, of course, Cumann Rince Náisiúnta.

Which is Irish for Dance Like Your Shoes Are On Fire. We think.

Having taken place at the Scientology Theatre Dublin (how did those sci-fi nutters get a venue here?), the adjudicators Rosanne Roe, Siobhan Crowley and Antoinette Gains were clearly impressed with our local heroes.

The stripped-down competition – no wigs, no Quality Street dresses – saw everyone compete dressed simply in black, and Louise Roe and Anita Nolan’s dancers managed a whole plethora of 1st place wins.

An honourable mention has to go to Ella-Louise Kelly, who placed 2nd in the Under 14 Championship.

Said a very delighted agus excited Ella-Louise, “This was the first competition back after the summer break and to get 2nd was amazing – especially getting 200 points from one of the judges. There’s just no feeling like hearing your name being called and then getting up on the podium with a cup.” 

Congrats to all the dancers on the day, and to Louise and Anita on adding so much to the mantlepiece back home. Here’s to the South Leinster Regional Championships 2023 in October, where Scoil Rince Fáinne will have 17 dancers competing.
