They may have just undergone a major refurbishment of their store, but Donnybrook Fair in Greystones are still holding fast on revealing how much their full range of scones might be.
With just the fruit scones priced, it’s left to the customer to hazard a guess as to not only what the other scones on offer may actually contain, but also how much they cost.
“We felt that, although we were spending thousands on upgrading the store,” explained assistant manager Bert Kaempfart, “we simply wouldn’t go the extra tenner to have signs made up for our entire pastry prices.
“People who shop at Donnybrook Fair like to feel that money is no object, and therefore, whatever price we choose to charge them at the checkout till, well, they’re hardly going to object, are they…?”
With properly-priced pastries available in many outlets around the town and surrounding areas – we can particularly recommend those Bear Paw treats up in Delgany – the management at Donnybrook Fair are clearly keen to offer something a little bit different for the discerning Greystones shopper.
“And that difference is not knowing what the hell it is that you’re buying, or how much it might actually cost,” smiles Kaempfart. “We’re planning to introduce proper pricing in 2019, but, for now, having just the price of the humble fruit scone in front of a whole range of different, higher-price scones – such as chocolate, cheese, etc – means that people are challenged into not only guessing what kind of pastry they might be buying, but also how much the bugger is going to set them back.
