Celebrating 30 Years Of Scoring

The 30th anniversary lunch for Sugarloaf Bridge Club was held today, May 12th 2026 at Delgany Golf Club, with 80 guests attending.

Amongst them were members of the first committee and club which began in 1996, having being formed by our wonderful bridge teacher, Nano Henry.

Some members had not seen each other for many years, so the chat, hugs and tears was mighty.

There was a drinks reception to start, followed by a fabulous lunch, including gorgeous cake supplied by Supervalu, Bray.

Huge thank you to John McGowan too, for his picture taking. I don’t think he missed a thing.

Jamie, Kevin and staff pulled out all the stops to make this day truly memorable. Thank you guys.

Also a big thank you to Eilish and Mary, committee members, who came up with some fun games, which our guests enjoyed immensely, including Guess The President, in which guests had to match the infant photograph with the adult club president. There was also a quirky take on bingo.

Our 18 past president’s were presented with gifts to mark their term of office from 1996. Member Anne Condren member read the Irish/English story of Michael Mor, a take on the love-hungry farmer who didn’t get his woman.

Catherine Brophy, storyteller extraordinaire, writer and podcaster, regaled us with the story of how and why she took up bridge. Hilarious.

I gave a brief history of the formation of the club and the year’s since.

Festivities ended at around 4pm and as they departed, guests were presented with goody bags containing an assortment of small gifts.

All in all, a great day, with the text messages of congratulations are rolling in since 4pm.

I’m so thrilled everything went so smoothly and that everyone enjoyed themselves. Roll on our 40th!
