The Old Convent Saved At 11th Hour

n a surprising twist that will no doubt leave quite a few developers crying into their skinny Lattes, GG HQ has just been informed by a very reliable source that the former convent on Kimberly Road has been bought by the Department Of Education just as the Greystones landmark was about to go to auction.

Which is a major cause for celebration, by the way. Not every old building around here has to be turned into townhouses and apartments.

Built in 1845, and sitting on over half-an-acre of prime Greystones land, this 11,000-square-feet building had a guide price of €550,000. Given its long history with the adjoining St. Brigid’s School, the purchase by the Department of Education means that this much-loved building will continue to be a part of many local children’s upbringing over the coming years.

The auction was due to take place on October 7th at 3.30pm in Buswells Hotel, but no more.

Shame. Fully intended on turning this into the new GG HQ, with indoor tennis court and swimming pool.

Could have easily landed me helicopter on the kids playground too. Dang it.
