done quite a bit for charity – including fundraising for his mum after her battle with cancer – but on October 6th 2025, Alex Nolan pleaded guilty to passing off counterfeit money.
And the offences all took place at SuperValu in his hometown.
According to a report by Darragh McCann in The Bray People, evidence was presented at Bray District Court of Nolan purchasing a drink for €2.30 on February 12th 2024 with a €50 note at SuperValu that was later discovered to be counterfeit.
The following day, the accused pulled the same trick, whilst a third attempt to pass off a counterfeit €50 at the same supermarket on February 21st was scuppered when a staff member grew suspicious of the note and called the store manager.
The previous two fraudulent purchases were confirmed through the use of CCTV footage.

On Sunday, October 12th, The Irish Independent reported on Alex Nolan addressing the court case on his social media…
Nolan addressed the fraud on social media this week, saying he made a mistake and said he wanted his young fans who look up to him to know what he did was wrong.
“I didn’t address anything in the last 24 hours because I didn’t really know how to handle it or take it.
“Yes, a year and a half ago I made a huge mistake
“I hold my hand up to the mistake. Every action has a reaction and the reason I am making a video is because I feel like I have a lot of young followers, I feel I need to address this in the right manner.
“I’m not making any excuses for myself or justifying anything that I’ve done because what I have done is wrong and I hold my hands high for that.
“I was in a confusing phase of life not really knowing what to do or how to handle myself or to handle certain situations that were going on. Obviously, I made a huge mistake and I am facing the consequences now.”
He said due to his social media following he believed news of his case will go everywhere.
“I feel I need to make this video because I have the younger audience and I feel like they look up to me and I feel doing what I did isn’t right and I don’t agree with any of it
“What I do say to the people who look up to me its what you do after you make them mistakes, how you hold yourself. I opted a bad way out and I done a complete 180 since then.”
He said he felt he needed to help families in need who were struggling with mental health. He said his content that he puts up is positive.
He added: “Try not turn to any sort of illegal activities whether its drugs, fraud or anything because that is not the right thing to do at all.
“This isn’t a pity story or feel bad for me, I’m not trying to win anyone over just the objective is if this can correlate to a young man who is confused and is going through anything with their family or in any scenario, don’t opt for easy money or easy way out because that is not the right route
“For people out there who try to beat people when they’re down on social media, you don’t know the side effects or how people can handle it.
“I am fairly thick skinned but all of this has took a toll on me even though I am thick skinned.”
He said that people who are involved in likes and views don’t know the affect it can have.
“Hopefully people can forgive and forget and try and move past things is what I’m trying to do as well.”
Where’s TG ?
Hi Paul, I am shocked to see the naming and shaming of a young man.
Regardless of the criminal behavior I feel it’s very unethical to publicly shame him.
I think it’s right that he’s exposed . He should have thought of that when he committed the offences
Why is that ? It’d be a different story if you received them, he’s an adult who clearly has no respect for the people he was trying to deceive, it wasn’t a one off mistake there was intent 3 times …
I don’t know this chap or his family, and clearly he has done something wrong, but for goodness sake, it’s very cruel to publish this on a local news site. We live in a country where there are people with hundreds of convictions and they rarely if ever get mentioned in newspapers. Obviously crimes are wrong, but I think publishing this is a horrible thing to do. And why on earth are you mentioning his mother who is entirely innocent? This is a new low for the Greystones Guide. Shame on you.
Good man. Was actually trying to show that Alex is clearly a good guy, as shown by the fundraiser we covered earlier this year. As to a Greystones news site not reporting Greystones news, if The Irish Independent can cover a story, I think it’s okay for us to cover it. We’re not here to pretend that everything is always awesome in paradise…
