Greystones father-of-three was fined this week at Bray District
Court for a three-day crime spree with a stolen credit card.
According to a court report by Darragh McCann in today’s Irish Independent, it was on June 27th 2024 that the accused entered a store on the Boghall Road in Bray to purchase items worth €50, later returning to buy alcohol. He then bought a mobile phone and credit in Tesco, before later entering SuperValu in Wicklow and purchasing vodka and cigarettes to the value of €47.80, placing a Buzzball in his pocket without paying before leaving.
On June 28th, Behan brought the total theft tally to €404 when he bought a smartwatch in Power City. He also pleaded guilty to two further counts of theft, driving away from petrol stations without paying.
The court heard that Behan had 20 previous convictions, “historical in nature”, with his solicitor, Joe Maguire, stating that his client had been brought to each individual shop by an unknown associate and was put under pressure to commit the crimes. He was, said Maguire, “under the influence of drugs, and in a bad place“.
The accused’s mother was in court, said Maguire, “as this was the first time she has seen him drug and alcohol free in 20 years“, Behan having spent three months in rehabilitation followed by a month in sober living accommodation. He was also now gainfully employed, the court was told.

This is clearly a private matter. why would you broadcast these humiliating details 2 yrs later when the man has children in the area.
What is the purpose of this except bein meanspirited gossip
Are you saying a Greystones news site shouldn’t cover Greystones news? The court case happened this week. It was in the country’s biggest-selling daily paper, The Irish Independent. We’re not just here to pretend everything is awesome in Greystones. Sometimes, bad things happen. And the important point here is that Glen has turned his life around and is happy and healthy today.

I couldn’t agree more. I don’t know why GG insists on reporting these kinds of stories when there is nothing to be gained by reporting them, particularly when the person has turned their life around. All that can come from this is anguish. If someone was an ongoing threat I’d understand, but reporting this along with his photo is just mean. It says more about GG than it does about the chap in question.
Get a fucking grip, you halfwit. This was on The Irish Independent, the biggest-selling daily newspaper in Ireland. Do you want to get on to them and give them the big Boo Hoo as well…? Not everything that happens in Greystones is awesome, and it would be bollox if we pretended otherwise. Have been in touch with Glen as we published this, and he was happy to see his recovery emphasised more than The Irish Independent piece. So, go find a quiet corner and concentrate. For at least five minutes.
Stealing from credit card companies is not really stealing in fairness
