Greystones Players Ready To Play

Not one of them seems to have mastered their Trump salute just yet, but there’s little doubt that the Greystones Players are going to be more than ready for their second-ever production when it debuts later this week.

It was back in May that this fledgling drama group managed to knock it out of the park with their rousing – and moving – adaptation of Brian Friel’s Dancing At Lughnasa.

For their second bout in The Whale ring, director Aideen Walton and the gang decided to search for something a little more adventurous, a little more daring. And they found it. And then some.

Having four one-act plays under the umbrella title of Connections has meant the Greystones Players needed to be bigger, bolder and maybe even a little braver this time out, as the 18 actors tackle an adaptation of O. Henry’s short story, While The Auto Waits, David Ives’ comic tale Sure Thing, Paul Dooley and Winnie Holzman’s poignant Post-Its (Notes On A Marriage), and Michael Frayn’s existential comedy, Audience.

The 18 actors involved include [ab0ve] Shirley O’Keeffe, Eoin O’Mahony, Sheena Griffin, Alice O’Donnell, Thomas Gleeson, Gareth Walker-Ayres, Aisling Venables, Marijka Walsh and Liam O’Doherty, as well as, among others, Conor Horan and Hugh Jordan.

We spoke to the latter dynamic duo recently, about their roles in Audience, and the strange lure of acting, no matter what age you might be.

As young Walton says of Connections, these four one-act plays “demonstrate very different dramatic styles of telling a story on stage, and anyone interested in expanding their experience of theatre won’t be disappointed”.
