riginally suggested in 2014, confirmed in 2017 and site approved in 2018, it wasn’t until April 2022 that Wicklow County Council finally announced firm plans for a Greystones Primary Care Centre.

With the council-owned, 1.33acre site situated behind the Greystones Medical Centre at the South Beach, by December 2022, those plans also included two apartment blocks and, be the holy, a 75-bed hotel.

Which could come in handy.

In September 2024, it was confirmed that a planning application for a 61,000 square feet (5,600sqm) Primary Care Centre to serve the communities of Greystones, Kilcoole and Delgany had been lodged with Wicklow County Council, which was granted in January of this year.

And now, finally, the funding for the build has been confirmed, with the allocation of €453,682 under the HSE Capital Plan 2026.

“For far too long, people in our town have had to travel significant distances to access essential primary care services that should be available right on their doorstep,” says Louise Fenelon Gaskin, who has been campaigning for its addition to the town. “This announcement represents a real and meaningful step forward for Greystones and East Wicklow.

“I am determined to see this project delivered as quickly as possible and will continue to work to ensure that the people of Greystones finally have access to the modern, accessible healthcare services they deserve in their own community.

The development will consist of a four-storey building off the Mill Road in Greystones on a site to be developed by the Health Service Executive.

The proposed development will extend to over 5,600 square metres on a 0.63 hectare site.

The Primary Care Centre will offer a range of services, including:

⦿ A large-scale GP Practice (5 consultation rooms)
⦿ Two Primary Care Teams (doctors, nurses, home helps, health and social care professionals and health care assistants working together to ensure patients receive services in a timely and coordinated way in their community)
⦿ Dental Services
⦿ Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS Team and Community Team)
⦿ Adult Mental Health Service
⦿ National Counselling Service
⦿ Older persons day Service
⦿ Disability Services
⦿ 2nd GP Practice (future expansion)
⦿ Diagnostics (future expansion)

And now, Cllr Louise Fenelon Gaskin has confirmed that the project is at the detailed design stage and progressing to tender, with the purchase of the site from Wicklow County Council advancing subject to statutory approvals. It says here.

Site clearance work began on the site on July 9th 2025, with site investigation works shortly after to allow Design Team to complete the Final Design. SAQ on E-Tenders were completed on July 2nd 2025 with 13 submissions from contractors, which, you would hope, would have been sorted by now.
