Just What The Good Nurse Ordered

rom making Lemslip for her sick gran to removing a thorn from the paw of her teddy, Killincarrig’s Melissa Hammond grew up with a strong desire to help the sick and the wounded.

It’s a desire that saw her through a Bachelor’s degree in science at Queen’s University Belfast, a higher diploma in Cardiovascular and Critical Care at Trinity College Dublin and St James’ Hospital, and a Masters in science at UCD for advance practice and nurse prescribing.

It’s also what has led her to open NurseHub, a one-stop shop bringing together specialists in every field under one roof. That roof being over in sunny Newtown, alongside the Project Health’s Shane Keogh and Conor Verbruggen.

“All the way through my years as a nurse,” says Melissa when we meet up on this surprisingly dry Monday over at her freshly-minted HQ, “I always had my eye on the bigger picture.

“Nurses can often be taken for granted, and yet they are so crucial when it comes to healthcare.

“That’s when I thought it would be great to have a health hub that brought all the best nurses together in one place, covering every specialist area.”
