It was well worth the trip out of town for Greystones United AFC’s Senior team this afternoon, when they took on Shamrock Celtic in the final of The Charlie Byrne Cup.
And whattaya know, the feckers have only gone and won it.
Here’s the match report from young Andy O’Hara…
Greystones started very strong against the league winners Shamrock Celtic a much older and bigger team.
After 15 mins Dave O’Sullivan scored after Shamrock failed to clear. Greystones then sat back and Shamrock played long balls causing a soft penalty.
One all at the break then Greystones got back on top and Oisin Kehoe scored after some great build up play.
Shamrock got it back to two all but it was all Greystones with several clear chances and again Oisin took a great pass to the back post and again finished well winning him man of the match and leaving Sean Minoghue to pick up the cup.
Congrats to Martin,Derek and, of course, the team on a rather fine win. Final score – GUAFC 3:2 Shamrock Celtic.
