Stylin’… SAT18JULY26 Greystones Rugby Club
ou didn’t need to be at the Greystones Rugby this weekend to know
that the Ireland’s Scooter Association were in town.
In Delgany, Kilcoole and beyond, stray bikers could be spotted buzzing by, stopping by for a quick bite in the sun, or just asking people how the hell to get to the Greystones Rugby Club.
And each one seemed to be that little bit cooler than the last. Because any mods here were rockin’, and any rockers were thoroughly modern motorbikers.
The weekend was a nod to What’s The Story? Scooter Glory, an event that ran at The Bray Head Hotel from 1996 to 2000.
Thought up by Mark ‘Shazy’ Farrell at Scooter Island, and kicked into shape by Colette McGee and a group of hardy volunteers, the 30th anniversary of this much-loved gathering was, all agreed, one worth celebrating.
Hey, if Oasis can get back together after all these years, so can Scooter Glory.
And this afternoon, they headed out en masse for a looped bike ride, hitting Greystones harbour, the Southern Cross, Kilmacanogue, down to Mullinaveigue, Newcastle, Kilcoole and back to the ranch dressing.
Young Farrell told the Guide today, “Our intention is to run the rally annually again, and we’re encouraging Greystones locals to get involved next year too…
“We’re having a blast here, and we’re also raising money for a great charity, namely St Vincent’s Hospital…”
For now, there’s still time to join in the fun as the party continues over Saturday and Sunday, with food trucks, DJs, a custom show, stalls and, hey, loads and loads and loads of groovy feckin’ scooters.
Big thanks to John McGowan for taking over 150 shots today – full gallery in hi-res here, free to download.
