There was a time, of course, when golf was played by only the very finest of gentlemen in the land.
Clearly, judging by the pic above, those days are long, long gone.
It was a case of everyone welcome on this hot August Friday at Greystones Golf Club, as that fine Irish sun was poured down upon us.
The rain didn’t seem to bother those gathered for the 2nd Paul Dunne Invitational, a fun afternoon of golf with the hometown international star that was all about raising money for Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
Having been cooked up last year by Karl Holmes and the Dunne lad, this fine idea looks set to become an annual Greystones event. Which sounds pretty good to us.
With the odd very special guest planned for the closing dinner this evening (and they don’t come much odder than Gunther), there should be quite a few happy faces pouring out of Greystones Golf Club tonight.
In the meantime, we managed to grab a few minutes with the man of the hour as he teeded off with each of the 28 teams today, his guardian angel, Sophie, by his side…
