Kish My Ash

You can tell by the pic that Greystones Sailing Club’s Frank Whelan [right] had a damn good day yesterday.

For Sunday was the day that the cigar-chomping Frank (or is that a shrimp?) and his crew on the 44ft Eleuthera won the DMYC Kish Race in Dun Laoghaire.

And they won it by a comfortable mile too.

There were 47 boats in this year’s race, and despite the low winds – 3 to 5 knots, gusting to 7 to 9 knots – and a strong tide that made even crossing the starting line a struggle, Whelan and the gang managed to cruise home over half-an-hour ahead of 2nd-placed Jheetah.

The Eleuthera crew consisted of Frank Whelan, Conor Clery, Paddy Barnwell, Gary Hick, Kevin O’Rourke, Killian Fitzgerald, Brian Hare and Pete Evans.

We should give a special shout-out to another Greystones competitor yesterday, Steve Hayes and his crew taking sixth place with Magic Touch.
