
Bernadette Stokes is one of those people that just seems to have always been part of Greystones.
Whether it’s the familiar sight of Bernie – as some of us common folk say – and her two beautiful dogs, Buddy and Coco, heading down through the town, or it’s all the behind-the-scenes work – campaigning for a Greystones dog park, explaining the town to hordes of foreign students, or simply making chess sexy – Ms Stokes is everywhere, man.
Just like Elhvst himselhvst, in fact, with Greystones as her Graceland. A place, incidentally, Bernie always knew she would eventually come home to – even if it did take her eight years abroad to realise just how special we are.
Clearly, this is a woman who likes to take her time. Think twice. Think thrice. Have a cup of tea, and then think again.
It’s an approach GG experienced first hand, having only just managed to get Bernadette’s answers 20 minutes before our Thursday evening deadline, having been promised them quite a few days ago.
Worth the wait, of course, and Bernie is worth her weight in gold to this town. She’s damn right about our needing a dog park, and she’s plainly right about our needing a hotel in the town too. And she’s damn right about chess too. It is sexy, baby.
