My Greystones: Marlena Murphy

If it weren’t for the fact that the woman is very happily married – to a stupidly wonderful man, of course – and plainly very smart and enormously sensible, we here at GG would happily marry Marlena Murphy.

Not only is she smart, and sweet, and capable of putting together The Wicklow Calendar whilst organising a charity event for thousands and presenting an entertainment show online, but, Marlena also happens to be mother – along with that aforementioned pesky husband – of The Most Beautiful Kid In All of Greystones.

So, hey, you can see why we felt it was high time that this certifiable Greystones Wonder Woman be featured on our weekly My Greystones.

Actually hailing from a small town somewhere between Krakow and Warsaw – if memory serves, Marlena said the place was called something like Zxaoieeeoinbrtfyhghuftygyhtfgyhpolkz – this intrepid young go-getter first planted herself in Sicily, with the intent of doing her Masters in Rome. A quick fun-filled, rain-soaked fortnight in Dublin changed all that. Mainly because of the people Marlena met here. Including her future hubby, Gavin Murphy.

The latter was born and raised in Bray, and was therefore a little reluctant to move over that great big hill and settle in Greystones. But this is where Marlena had made many of her closest friends, having worked evenings in The Hungry Monk as she put herself through UCD. And so, five years ago, the happy couple moved here. And they’ve never looked back since.

Which is often the case for people who leave Bray.

So, watch out for Marlena. One of those people who just loves getting involved – for years, she was instrumental in our annual Arts Festival, and is currently one of the shining lights of our annual Christmas Lights shindig too – whenever there’s a good time to be had by everyone, there’s a good chance Marlena’s involved behind the scenes.
