My Lunches With Elvis #3: Jokers

t was a very excited Elvis who entered Jokers today for our latest lowdown on local lunches, for this Greystones fast food joint just happens to be one of his favourite eateries in the world.

We should have guessed, of course. If Elvis was going to be drawn to one particular restaurant in this town, it was always going to be wherever sold de finest burgers.

And that, of course, is what Elvis – aka, The Artist Formerly Known As Alan Adamson – decided to have today. Ignoring the soup of the day – Sausage Batter In Turkey Grease with a Sprig of Nettle – The King jumped straight to his beloved Cheese Burger & Chips.

And, of course, a can of Coke. Just as Elvis would have ordered.

As we entered, notorious gang leader Grace Leonard was there with her roving pack of fellow schoolgirls, the twenty-plus posse taking up pretty much every available inch in Jokers. Whilst still, naturally, keeping well clear of the stranger asleep at the end of the room.

Finally, after a little taser action from Jokers’ management, the girls were gone, and The King and I settled down to a fine lunch. In honour of the dearly departed Pineto’s, GG order the Fresh Cod & Chips. Which seemed to upset Elvis just a tad. 

This is clearly a man who tries to avoid anything even remotely healthy, and is at least mildly repulsed by the idea of anything marked fresh.

Still, the siren call of that cheese burger proved too much of a distraction, and the rabid chomping soon began.

As always, the question bursting to be asked once we’d finished was, did Jokers provide a lunch fit for The King…?
