My Lunches With Elvis #4: Firehouse Bakery

n truth, we hadn’t a feckin’ clue what the heck halloumi was either…

All it took for The Artist Formerly Known As Alan Adamson to select his choice of lunch from the Firehouse Bakery menu was the simple word ‘burger’.

It was only as GG went to order our grub that we discovered that the grilled halloumi burger, mango salsa, wood fired peppers, picked red onion, pesto & baby leaves on a brioche bun was actually a vegetarian option.

Would the one and only true Burger King approve of having – gulp – no meat in his all-time favourite food?

We thought it best not to tell Elvis about the lack of animal suffering in his lunch until after he’d finished licking his lips, and dabbing his deinty lips with his napkin.

And, fair fecks, the man was not phased one iota. The King ordered burger, The King devoured burger, and The King feckin’ loved burger. Even if it did “taste a little bit funny at times“.

That would have been the mango. Outside of the odd Chocolate Orange, it’s unlikely Elvis eats much fruit.

For GG, the lunch sandwich of choice was the crispy pork belly, Kimchi pickle, pok choi & soy, with ginger and lime may on granary baguette. And it was feckin’ yummy.

Having managed to stick with our €20 or under rule – allowing for a tip, of course – The King and I were very happy with our Firehouse feast. So much so, Elvis gave them a whopping 9 out of 10. Boom!
