Petition To Stop 9-Year-Old’s Deportation

It’s a move that has the great smell of Trump, as the Irish government line up a 9-year-old Irish-born Chinese boy for deportation.

Back to that bastion of democracy and freedom, China.

Naturally, Eric Zhi Ying Xue’s school is none too impressed by such a move, and have started a petition to try and help him remain in the country where he was born and raised.

Following a 2004 referendum, children born in Ireland to foreign parents don’t have an automatic right to Irish citizenship. It was an amendment introduced by Fianna Fáil and backed by Fine Gael, and introduced after winning 80% of the vote.

Earlier this month, Offaly schoolboy Nonso Muojeke and his family were saved from deportation after an online petition reached 22,000 signatures. The online petition for Eric already has over 44,000.

Worth noting too, that Nonso lives in the constituency of Charlie Flanagan, the Minister For Justice, which might have helped his case. Eric lives in Simon Harris’ home turf. Which might just help his case.

Here’s the lowdown…

We in St. Cronan’s School appeal to the Minister for Justice, Mr. Charlie Flanagan, to revoke the deportation order made in respect of Eric Zhi Ying Xue.
Eric is a 9 year old boy in 4th Class in St. Cronan’s BNS Bray, who was born in Ireland but is not an Irish citizen and has never been out of the country.
If he is forced to go to China, where his mother was born, he will have no access to China’s health or education systems because he is not a Chinese citizen.
This is a humanitarian issue – Eric urgently needs your support.
