Newcastle To Get New Retail Units

t would undoubtedly change the face of Newcastle as we know, transforming it from a quiet little Wicklow village into, well, a considerably less quiet little Wicklow village.

Eagle-eyed local Kim Harris has been keeping tabs on the vacant property opposite The Castle Inn for some time now, and has just unearthed the latest in a long series of plans.

And they’re pretty extensive. For a quiet little Wicklow village.

Just to make everyone aware of the new proposed plans for the site in the middle of the village. Beside Rockingham, opposite the pub. Site notices have been up & down on it like yoyos over the years, so it’s easy not to notice new ones!

This latest plan is for 4 houses, a duplex, 5 apartments & 4 retail units.

I think everyone knows about the sewerage situation in the village so no, these are not going to be built in the near future. But, if you opposed to this type of development in the village, it’s important at this stage to make those feelings heard.

The last photo is of the Rockingham end wall which will be lost if this were to go ahead. And worth pointing out that there are four long-term vacant retail units already in the village.
