Petition Launched For Cove Lifeguard

or many Greystonians, young and old, it’s become the no.1 beach in town, The Cove offering not only shelter from any crosswinds but also a fine platform to dive from.

Which makes it, in many a local’s eyes, a prime spot for a lifeguard to be present.

The fact that The Cove isn’t part of the town’s blue flag area – that largely covers The South Beach – means it’s not a designated bathing area that would normally have a lifeguard present.

Nonetheless, a petition has been started by Aisling Doyle, to try and encourage Wicklow County Council to reconsider. This is more than just a matter of fun and splashes, after all.

Here’s Aisling’s plea…

Due to the increase of people swimming in this area, rather than the south beach, and without any protection of life guards – including families with young children and teenagers -all using the area on a daily basis, we are seeking that Wicklow County Council – Greystones Municipal District – acknowledge The Ladies Cove in Greystones as a designated bathing area and safeguard those enjoying the space through the provision of Lifeguard Services in the area.

We seek that the Blue Flag designation is extended to include The Cove area in addition.
