t’s been a busy few years for former Greystones United AFC shining light Simon Power.

Signing with Norwich FC in 2018 and again in 2019, joining the Ireland U21s later that same year, the right wing stalwart has clearly been making his presence felt on the football pitch.

And it’s something that Sligo Rovers have taken notice of, signing the young Greystonian this afternoon.

Having spent a frustrating spell in Tallaght, Power is keen to show The Bit O’Reds what he can do. When given the chance. New manager John Russell reckons the league ain’t seen nothing yet when it comes to what the Greystones lad is capable of.

Signing with the Hoops in July 2022, Power played just five games for the League of Ireland Premier Division champions in 2023, scoring against Cork City. And the lad’s got experience under his belt.

After signing with Norwich City in 2018, the now-25-year-old player went on loan to Dutch side FC Dordrecht, then Ross County and Kings Lynn Town before signing with Harrogate Town in 2021.

Joining Shamrock Rovers in July 2022, Power suffered a series of injuries that kept him largely off the pitch.

“I feel like I’ve got a lot to give,” says the Greystonian. “I haven’t played in a while now. I’m eager to show what I can do and prove a point. I feel like Sligo is the right place for me…”

For manager Russell, Power is a “really exciting player, exactly what I would want from an attacking player. He’s quick, powerful, got end product, he’s good on set plays as well. He’s also got a really good work ethic, works hard for the team, chases back, puts tackles in.

“So, to have all that in an attacking player… I’m excited to see what he can bring to us next year.”
