Registered Sex Offender Had Been Camping In Town Park

ollowing the news in March that convicted rapist John Connors had set up a tent in our main park comes news that a registered sex offender had also recently been sleeping there.

Trevor McDonagh of Ballywaltrim Heights, Bray appeared in court this week having failed to notify gardaí of his whereabouts.

The 27-year-old pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 months in jail.

McDonagh was convicted in a 2017 trial of raping a 16-year-old girl, having lured his victim down a laneway with another boy when he was 15. There he pushed her against a wall, rubbed himself against her, and bit her on the breast. When he believed gardaí were nearby, McDonagh fled the scene, leaving his victim suffering hair loss and, later, constant seizures because of the rape.

According to Darragh McCann in The Irish Independent, the court also heard that the accused had 56 previous convictions, including four for assault and 30 for theft, plus another for failing to notify gardaí of a change of address, for which he is currently serving a sentence until October this year.

Judge David Kennedy sentence McDonagh to a further 10 months imprisonment for failing to notify gardaí of his whereabouts.
