t’s been a long, slow and painful-to-watch death for the once-proud La Touche 
Hotel, but it finally looks like this Greystones landmark is about to be put out of its misery…
Initially, it’s going to be the extension buildings that get the old heave-ho, but, with the Preservation Order on the main hotel having been, we’re told, changed to an Architectural Conservation Areas & Areas of Special Planning Control, the original building will undoubtedly soon follow.

It had its grand opening in June 1894, and now The Grand Hotel will have its big farewell in June 2017. Hey, that’s some 123rd birthday bash.
There’ll be ballads and stories about the old dear for generations to come. For now, you can take a trip down through its glory years here, it’s not-so-glorious decay here, and catch up on the hotel’s many ups and downs of recent years here.

I remember growing up there my mother grand mother and grandad we all went there as a family for many many years I miss that place sooooo much because of my mother’s passing the council are scum for letting such a place with far to many memories of people’s hearts beening destroyed rest in peace a beautiful place
My grandparents ran that hotel and my father grew-up inside of it. What a loss.
Thank you Greystones Councillors for your useless attempts to keep the building. You should be ashamed of yourselves – every single one of you.
Naturally, we can expect the developers to build something that is both contemporary as a 21st century building but at the same time harmoniously blend in with its surrounds (keeping in mind the hideous extension as a precedent no doubt)
Yes, beautiful building with a lot of character. Sad to see it go and as already said above, the harbour mess was bad enough. Not only that but new housing around Greystones tends to be soulless, bland and unimaginatively cheap-looking. I suppose some concrete block with plastic windows will be built on the site. At least it will match the harbour.
As a child I had birthday parties in the ballroom a few times complete with conjurer – it was magical. I am so very sad to see it go – and townhouses? Surely Greystones needs a hotel now more than ever. I loved its design and think it looks very right for 2017 with those lovely balconied rooms. First the harbour – now this – does nobody appreciate the unique charms of old Greystones now lost forever in a tomb of concrete and townhouses where it should be a beautiful building which we all can enjoy and a valuable resource and source of revenue for Greystones itself. Sad days indeed.
And correct me if I am wrong, but wasn’t the La Touche Hotel the last place Michael Collins stayed up here, while he had his last confession heard in our Holy Rosary Church, before heading down to Cork to his fateful demise?
Had our wedding reception there 30 years ago this September !!! Will be so sad to see it go!
