The next generation game…
he sun just about shone all day, and it made for another fine
Kilquade Cup up at Delgany Golf Club this afternoon.
Teeing off at 1.30pm, with din-dins, prize-giving and gossip for afters, this year wouldn’t have happened without the generous 11th hour sponsorship of Newcastle Design.
And given that the day is all about raising money for his parish, Fr Des Hayden was full of thanks and praise, stating that The Kilquade Cup is “a welcome opportunity for local golfers and businesses to help our parish meet the needs of the local communities.
“Money raised will see improvement works in each of the parish churches, making ceremonies and practical community supports more accessible to parishioners.”
For their part, Ronan Carey and Phillip Hempenstall, co-owners of Newcastle Design, said their business is proud to contribute to parish life.
Others deserving a shout out on the day included Dinny Doyle of The Grove Bar, who revived the weary golfers on the 9th with amazing hot food and cold beer from Wicklow Wolf, whilst the bould Paddy Holohan sponsored the golfers’ goodie bags. And brought along a truckload of bananas too, it seems.
Kilquade Cup committee member Sam Fitzpatrick also expressed a huge thanks to everyone who played and supported, not least Delgany Golf Club for the use of their top-of-the-golf-range course and clubhouse, the whole shebang aided and abetted by Paddy and Jimmy.
The big winners on the day were Mark Kinsella’s team of John Groomes, Walter Gilbert, Jonathan Groomes and Kevin McCarty.
You can check out all the winners, and over 100 of John McGowan’s fine shots of the day, right here.
