hey’re not quite the Drummin trees, but there’s something very beautiful about the little hilltop forest up behind the Kindlestown estate.

It’s our own little Hollywood sign, a lighthouse to aim for when you’re dragging yourself home, tired and weary.

It’s also, unfortunately, the nesting place for a group of teenage idiots who like nothing better than the smell of a freshly-rolled joint and the sight of a freshly-lit gorse bush of an evening.

There’s been quite a few close calls when it comes to these fires over recent months, the local fire brigade each time arriving just before any of the 24 households backed on to these dry, crackling gorse bushes found themselves battling flames.

For one resident, the battle to find a long-term solution to this permanent threat seems to have fallen largely on deaf ears. Paul Sutton has been in touch with councillors and council offices aplenty, and received many assurances that something would be done. 

And now, as Halloween weekend approaches, Paul has yet to see even one of those he spoke to actually deliver on those assurances. Or pay Kindlestown a visit.

While we’re at it, would the little eejit who caused this fire like to step forward?
