Whatever about the life experience of going to another country and experiencing a different culture, the real beauty of volunteer work in struggling parts of the world is the possibility that you might just make a real difference to someone else’s life.
For Greystones girl Sadhbh O’Connor, the chance to do some good will be happening in June, when she travels to Zambia to become a teaching assistant.
A third-year student at Trinity College, Sadhbh will go through an interview process and intensive training before being qualified for her Zambian trip, working in under-resourced schools there to help improve the educational opportunities for its young pupils.
Travelling as part of the Suas educational development organisation, Sadhbh just needs to come up with €2,995 to cover the cost of travel, accommodation and training.
We caught up this morning in a very sunny Greystones to find out more. In the meantime, you can find out more about Suas here, and you can donate directly to Sadhbh’s Zambia trip here.
