Shoreline Going Solar

Local elections count a Shoreline 25MAY19

lanning approval has just been given to both Greystones’ and Bray’s Shoreline Leisure centres.

This follows the installation of two electric vehicle chargers at the Greystones complex in October 2020.

The approval for the solar panels will be welcomed by many of our local eco worriers, and by whoever’s paying the ever-expanding energy bills at Shoreline.

The Greystones solar panel planning application no.22731 reads:

1. Proposed 148 no. solar array panels to southern roof and 146 no. solar array panels to northern roof of existing Shoreline Leisure 2. all ancillary site works to facilitate proposal at shoreline Leisure

The Bray application no.22732 reads:

1. Proposed 130 no. solar array panels to southern roof and 70 no. solar array panels to northern roof of existing shoreline leisure 2. all ancillary site works to facilitate proposal at Shoreline Leisure

Both were filed by Wicklow Recreational Services Ltd, with the conditions for the planning approval being:

Pursuant to the Planning & Development Act 2000 (as amended), permission is hereby granted, having regard to the location of the proposed development and the provisions of the Wicklow Counfy Development PIan 2016-2022 to facilitate solar generated electricity and to positively consider the installation building mounted solar panels, it is considered that subject to compliance with the condition outlined in the schedule below the proposed development would not seriously injure the amenity of the area and would therefore be in accordance with the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
