I’ve been receiving numerous concerns regarding anti-social behavior leading up to Halloween, particularly the dangerous use of fireworks.

This not only causes distress to our community but also poses serious risks of injury.

To address this issue, I’ve taken action by reaching out to the four secondary schools to raise awareness among students. Additionally, I’ve held meetings with local businesses in Charlesland to develop a plan for managing the large influx of youths during Halloween week. While most are well-behaved and welcome, we must ensure that the discharging of fireworks at people and cars does not happen again this year.

To make a positive difference, it would be wonderful if families could discuss the following points in the weeks ahead:

⦿ The Dangers of Fireworks
It’s crucial for everyone to understand the potential harm fireworks can cause. Attending organized displays is the safest option, and attempting to use fireworks without proper training can result in injuries, fires, and property damage.

⦿ Ensuring Residents’ Safety
No one should feel afraid or intimidated within their own neighborhood. Let’s encourage a respectful and considerate atmosphere where all residents can feel safe and comfortable leaving their homes during Halloween.

⦿ Caring For Our Furry Friends
Remember that dogs and cats can be greatly affected by the noise of fireworks. Please keep your pets indoors during displays and create a calm space for them. Consider using techniques like playing soft music or using white noise machines to help ease their anxiety.

By discussing these topics, we can foster a safer and more enjoyable Halloween experience for everyone in Greystones. Let’s work together to discourage anti-social behavior and create a vibrant, welcoming community!
