From Glenvara Park in Firhouse, Bobby Carpenter had waited in the queue for the till to open before promptly jumping the counter and grabbing €600 before fleeing the scene.

And as Christmas Day approached, the Dublin lad appeared at Bray District Court via video link from Cloverhill Prison to plead his case.

And now, according to a report in The Bray People, Judge David Kennedy heard in another sitting today from the defendant’s counsel, Eamon O’Moore, that Carpenter has suffered from addiction issues since the age of 14. Now 18, he is currently studying for his Junior Certificate in prison.

With no previous convictions, Judge Kennedy handed the accused – who pled guilty to one count of theft – a 9-month prison sentence, suspended in its entirety, warning Carpenter that this was being imposed under Section 99.

Meaning that if he commits another offence during the 9 months, the 18-year-old could end up with 9 months behind bars.
