Tigernutters Find Their Tiger Feet

Whitmore gets in the picture…

ollowing last Friday’s protest over the closure of the Greystones Family Resource Centre due to a major hike in rent, it was The Tigernutters that got Jennifer Whitmore’s eye.

The centre had been, after all, their regular drinking coffee hole, and they were now without a place to compare gossip notes.

The gang being a little too big for Costa Coffee’s liking, apparently. Especially when they brought their own flasks and sandwiches.

The obvious fix was, of course, the Charlesland Community Centre, but as many have found over the years – including your beloved GG – it’s pretty dang hard to get a room at that particular inn.

Even though it’s got community centre in its title.

Whitmore is made of scarier stuff though, and after a swift call or two to those looking after the rooms – the Stillorgan-based company Casey Kennedy Estate Agents (CKP) – the determined lass secured a place for the notorious biscuit munchers.

“I’m delighted this group of older residents in Charlesland now have a home for their meetings,” said the chuffed Social Democrats TD. “I know they were really worried when the Family Resource Centre lost its premises in Charlesland, so I’m delighted they will now have a base in the Charlesland Community Centre.”

We’ll have to get that CKP number from Jennifer. Be good to have a contact there after 15 years.

And finding a new meeting spot will save The Tigernutters – who formed in March 2022 – the ignominy seeing themselves in The Bray People again.

Whitmore stated that the wider issue of finding the Greystones Family Resource Centre a new home was something she was continuing to work on.
