So, wonder what this internationally recognised musical genius thinks of his adopted hometown? Hey, whattaya know, Niwel reckons Greystones rocks…
My Greystones: Niwel Tsumbu
The internationally-renowned guitarist riffs on his adopted hometown
previous post

s The Irish Times says, Niwel Tsumbu ‘trades in good vibrations’ – both onstage and off.
One of the country’s most in-demand guitarists, Tsumbu has played with everyone, from Sinead O’Connor to Liam O’Maonlai, whilst outside of Ireland, such musical luminaries as Island recording sensation Baaba Maal, award-winning Asian film composer Ma Xiaohui and multi-million-selling crop-haired classical violinist Nigel Kennedy.
Having arrived in Ireland from the Democratic Republic of Congo in 2004, Tsumbu’s impact on the Irish music scene was pretty much instant. As well as playing with many of our rock luminaries, Tsumbu was also commissioned by Cork City Council Arts Office to write The Big Bang Symphony with the multi-racial Clear Sky Ensemble, and is currently working on two operas due to debut later this year.
Add to that two critically-acclaimed solo albums (Songs Of The Nations and S’All Vibrations) and a string of cutting edge bands – the latest of which, RiZA, just launched last Friday at Donal Dineen’s Ensemble Assembly in Dublin’s Block T – and you’ve got yourself something approaching a musical wonder.
