Why did I get into playing music? Well, growing up in the ’60s, I was in the right place at the right time (well, kinda… Ireland wasn’t so hip back then) to experience the creative explosion that was happening in popular music. Not that I thought about it like that at the time; I was just a kid surrounded by magical sounds and I drank them in.

Music filled my head, and guitars were objects of fascination, yet it didn’t occur to me that I could join the party and learn to play. That came later, at around age 12 or 13, after one of my older sisters got a guitar and I made a start at learning some basic chords.
