Lawless Crowds Always Have The Best Fun

There were good vibrations pretty much everywhere you turned at the April Fools Golf Classic in memory of the late, great Ed Lawless today.

Then again, how could there not be? It’s golf, it’s Greystones, it’s a good cause, and it’s in memory of one of the town’s most loved men.

And Ed would have been proud of not only all the good friends who came out to support this very first Golf Classic in his name, but also his family, for pulling together such a wonderful day at the Greystones Golf Club. Son Rob even walked away with a little something for the mantlepiece.

Despite the rain, and the fact that Maclean Burke kept posing for pictures with people who had no idea who he was, much fun was had by all. And mucho moolah was raised for the Loughlinstown Hospital’s current fundraising campaign for a new dementia-specific project to help patients and their families who are living with this debilitating disease. The Lawless family were greatly comforted by the treatment they and Ed received from staff at Loughlinstown Hospital – or St Columcille’s, to give the place its official name – during the last few months of his life, and they were determined to say thanks by giving something back.

And that they did. With style. And a dirty great big dose of craic.
