ith some uncertainty over the new 1st class places announced today, we did a little ring-round with the secondary schools involved.

The extra space is a go with Greystones Community College, with Coláiste Chraobh Abhann and Temple Carrig awaiting the official stamp.

As is, we think, St David’s. They haven’t replied to this afternoon’s email yet.

Temple Carrig’s principal, Alan Cox, said they’re happy to take on extra kids in their 1st class year, whilst CCA’s Oliver Stack sent us the following statement…

The Board of Management of Coláiste Chraobh Abhann is aware of the difficulties of parents who have yet to secure a school place for their son/daughter for the coming academic year 2021-2022.

Unfortunately, the demand for places exceeded the number of places the college was able to accommodate. Coláiste Chraobh Abhann offered 120 places (30 students in 4 base classes) which is the maximum it can enrol within the existing facilities.

The Board of management welcomes the Department of Education’s approval of the application for temporary accommodation, submitted by the school, for the coming academic year 2021/22. The board of management continues to engage with the Department of Education on the necessity of a timely and adequate delivery of the proposed accommodation prior to confirming the offer of additional places and needs to have the confidence that this happens in a way that is conducive to the educational welfare of all students.
