here was a close call in the early hours of Saturday morning when a motorist fell asleep and his car left the N11.

And ended up on its side and in flames.

Gardaí were alerted to the vehicle on the N11 southbound this morning and were the first on the scene. They spoke to the only occupant of the vehicle, who luckily escaped injury after falling asleep behind the wheel.

Soon, the Arklow Fire Service arrived, removing the smouldering car from the scene.

Gardaí are urging all road users this Christmas to take care while driving on our roads.
