Whether it’s his wire sculptures outside the likes of The Happy Pear, The Whale or Fiona Roche’s Blacklion HQ, or all those Tidy Towns flower beds and eco-orchards, or his paperbacks in The Village Bookshop, the life of O’Reilly is a full one.

And we never even mentioned the man’s digital and oil paintings.

“Ah, glad you did mention that,” says the man himself when we swung down to his La Touche Park workshop, where much of his Enchanting Fairies and Stainless Steel Sculptures are born and welded. “As there are so many new houses being built around here, I have developed a gallery on the website where I offer bespoke original paintings in oils. The idea being that rather than paying a considerable amount for a mass-produced framed print, why not have your own original, unique oil painting?”

Which should make the neighbours feckin’ livid with jealousy.

“I rolled out this service last year in a small way to test the market,” continues O’Reilly, “and it proved very popular. So for 2024, I’m developing it as a part of the whole business.

“Painting in oils is a great way to relax for me, and the fact that there’s something unique at the end of it all that will make someone’s day, well, that pretty much makes my day too…”
