Better Latte Than Never

here’s definitely been some kind of strange brew going on surrounding our repeated attempts to have a chinwag with Vick and Ira down at Greystones’ cosiest café.

The three of us first spoke in 2021, during the lockdowns, about doing a little history on how the couple got from wherever-the-heck-they-were to here.

And now, after three years of back and forth – and no notes from Vick, of course – we decided it was best to simply jump in the deep end and see where our conversation took us. After all, there was much to find out about The Eatery Formerly Known As Café Gourmet – not least, how it has become a second home to many a weary traveller and knackered swimmer. The perfect little hideaway, tucked neatly and discreetly in beside Greystones Library, most days, Vick’s feels an awful lot like a family get-together.

Naturally, when we met up this afternoon, that voodoo decided it hadn’t quite finished with us yet. As the interview began to wrap up, an alarm notice on our iPhone rudely cut the interview short. So, sorry about the sudden end.

And feck you, Jobs. Feck you very much.

Still, we did get to explore Vick and Ira’s story so far, and just how they made the journey from Moldova to marzipan…
