She’s got medals THURS31MAR22

here are two clear and simple reasons that the young Rebecca Crampton was drawn to the gym.

Firstly, she was surrounded by talented musicians, from pa Stuart and ma Val to her stupidly gifted siblings, Elliot, Dylan and Claudia.

This Crampton needed somewhere to shine. Somewhere musicians never go, at that.

Then there was her 2012 diagnosis of stage 4 Endometriosis, which involves painful growths on the tissue surrounding the uterus. Rebecca had suffered years of agony without finding the source, and now finally diagnosed, she decided to fight back naturally, through diet and becoming a self-confessed “cardio bunny”.

Meeting future hubby Aleks in 2014 introduced Rebecca to the fine art of joined-up training, and the importance of weights. The girl was hooked.

“It was when Aleks entered a bodybuilding competition in 2018 that a whole new world opened up,” she smiles as we take a seat at the back of The Fat Fox, “and I just thought, this is amazing. I had just been through IVF, and our beautiful boy, Ivan, was born soon after. I just felt so happy, I could achieve anything…”

The clincher was medals magnet Aleks entering the 2021 IFBB World Bodybuilding & Fitness Championships in Santa Susanna.

“It was a world championship, and it inspired me to start prepping for the next big local competition that was coming along the line,” says Rebecca – which turned out to be the Republic Of Ireland Body Building Federation’s Spring Classic, held earlier this week. A certain Greystones lass walked away with the Overall Champion trophy, as well as the Bikini First Timer 2022 gong.

“If I had even an ounce of musical talent, I would have hit a high C when they called out my name. I went into the competition to win, of course, but I was still in shock when they handed me that trophy…”

That shock now having settled down to a nice warm glow of pride, and with her favourite coffee in hand, Rebecca was keen to chart just how she got from way over there to here…
