e first reported on the application by those loveable rascals Cairn Homes to not bother building a 2-storey amenity building that was part of their Archers Wood planning permission back on February 21st.

The developer felt that, in such an over-populated town such as Greystones, people don’t need a building for clubs, creches, meetings, band practice and classes.

Nope, they need to do stretches in the rain.

Five days earlier than the decision due date of April 10th, Wicklow Planning have given permission to Cairn Homes to omit the planned 2-storey split level residential amenity building at Archers Wood, despite 10 objections – including councillors Lourda Scott, Tom Fortune, Stephen Stokes, Mark Barry and Erika Doyle.

In the place of this c.325 sqm building will be the ‘reconfiguration of the open space area located to the east of the department buildings to include the provision of active outdoor gym equipment, enhanced open space and all associated works at Farrankelly & Killincarrig, Delgany, Greystones, Co.Wicklow‘.

The conditions from Wicklow Planning for their thumbs up are…

1. The development shall be carried out and completed in accordance with the plans and particulars lodged with the application, except as may otherwise be required in order to comply with the following conditions.

REASON: In the interests of clarity.

2. (a) Apart from any departures specifically authorised by this permission, the development shall be carried out and completed with the terms and conditions of the permitted Strategic Housing Development reference number ABP305475-19 (as amended by ABP311676-19),

(b) The duration of the permission granted herein shall expire with the expiration of permitted Strategic Housing Development ABP305476-19 (as amended by ABP311676-19).

REASON: In the interest of clarity and to ensure that the overall development is carried out in accordance with the previous permission.

Which basically means, lads, just do what you said on the omission application, and we’re happy if you’re happy.

Appeals against a decision of a Planning Authority under the Planning And Development Act 2000 can be made to An Bord Pleanála, and must be done so within four weeks of the decision. Which, in this case, is April 5th, 2023.
