aking the most of that Irish Sea for the past 103 years, the Greystones Rowing Club has long been a haven for people who like to stick their oar in.
And from such notable trophy winners as Paddy Redmond and Osborne Spurling in the 1950s and Pat Mooney, Joe Sweeney and Dessie Redmond in the ’70s to the rejuvenation of the club in 2000, thanks to the Byrne brothers, Alan Monahan and about 237 other lads with the Byrne surname.
Now stronger than ever, with the girls bringing home just as many trophies as the boys, on Saturday, April 15th, the Greystones Rowing Club are having an Open Day. Running from 10am to 1pm, this is a chance for anyone over the age of 10 to check out the town’s proud sport.
With training for beginners, and a gym inside their fancy-pants harbour HQ, sure, what’s not to love.
And if you need some encouragement, you can check out the Greystones Rowing Club history here, and jump back through our archive of regattas and general messing about in boats over here.
