aving survived their founder being jailed for possessing child pornography back in 2003, Clara Lara Fun Park in Rathdrum are now looking at ways of surviving the Irish winters.

By putting in an application with Wicklow Planning back in August 2024 for a Christmas village.

Which, given that they’ve got 50 acres to play with, should be a little bit North Pole than a Glasgow warehouse.

And now, Wicklow County Council have finally given the Christmas village the thumbs up. With 12 conditions, including the payment of €27,804 as a contribution in respect to public infrastructure, that the applicant shall enter into a legal agreement that the Clara Lara Funpark will be held in single ownership, no one can live there, the proposed park areas shall be designed to ensure least interference for wildlife and shall be switched off after the closing on the Christmas Village.

Application no.24331 lists the following developments…

(a) a Christmas Village to include 8no. Log cabins for retail use, 2no. Open Shelter Barns, toilet block, Santa’s house, animal barn, plant building and all ancillary works; (b) retention permission for 3no. Changing shelters and an Office building in the Fun Park and (c)planning permission sought for a universal access toilet and a wastewater treatment system for the Christmas Village development.
