And every now and then, when there’s a backlog of curious little facts and figures about this great little town of ours, he sends them our way. Which is nice.

Did you know…

That in late February 1923 there was a 30-minute exchange of fire between Free State troops and irregulars near Kilcoole; after which the irregulars escaped in the darkness?

That on August 21st 1915, a recruitment meeting was held outside the railway station and that many of the speakers were heckled with shouts of “What about Home Rule?” from the large crowd?

That in the early nineteenth century the parish priest of Kilquade was an ex-British army officer and a widower, and that his daughter got married in his church?

That on May 30th 1907, ‘five distinct earthquakes‘ were felt in Greystones, and that other earthquakes had occurred in 1892, 1893 and 1896?

That St Patrick’s Church stood empty and un-consecrated for seven years until a rectory was built for the minister in 1864?

That the first schoolhouse in Greystones stood near the harbour?
