Coolnagreina’s Cooleen Now Cool?

t’s taken a little longer than planned, but the Greystones Youth Café on Trafalgar Road is finally opening its doors.

It was back in the YWCA days that the fundraising began to turn the 150-year-old Cooleen building into a living, breathing youth HQ.

And now, six years and one month later, the big day is finally here.

Only it’s more of a howya than a big hurrah, as the Tiglin gang at Coolnagreina are keen to let the town’s teenagers let them know just what they would like this youth café to be.

With that in mind, there’s an open house on Saturday, from 2pm to 4pm, with hot chocolate, pizza, PlayStation and a listening ear or two.

Later that same day, the Making Waves Youth Theatre will be hosting another of their open mic nights from 7pm to 9pm, giving our young ‘uns a chance to shine, shout, sing, juggle or whatever floats their goat. This little love-in has a €2 cover charge. To cover all the backstage red M&Ms.

Open Wednesdays 3pm to 5pm and Fridays 7pm to 9pm for teenagers, there will be vetted volunteers on hand to help get the party started. Without any fires being started.
