Cyril Stringer Snooker Cup Raises €4,400

The balls were flying over in Newcastle once again for the Cyril Stringer Snooker Cup.

And, as always, all the fun and games were in aid of Greystones Cancer Support.

Having started out in 2006, in memory of Cyril Stringer, and with Keith Stringer and Gerry Reynolds leading a hardy team of organisers, this annual snooker championship has attracted some of the finest players in the county.

And some pretty dodgy ones too, of course.

Coming out on top this year were Dave Dunne and Shane Reilly, second and third from the right in the above picture, with Gerry to their left, along with Angus and Keith Stringer.

The tidy sum of €4,400 was raised, half going to the Wicklow Hospice and half to Greystones Cancer Support, with spokesperson for the latter, Sonia Walsh, stating, “Thank you so much to the people of Newcastle who organised this year’s tournament.

“Newcastle is a wonderful community which always supports people in need, and a special thanks goes out to the players, whose efforts will allow GCS to improve its services”.
